You may not know what this term exactly means, but you certainly can draw a conclusion based on common sense. Sleep hygiene is a sum of all habits that you practice before going to bed, in order to make sure you have a good night’s rest. And you need to have a proper resting period for the sake of your both mental and physical health. 

The sleep experts say that the most crucial thing, regarding this matter, is to have just the right amount of sleep each night and to be consistent with your before-bed routines. You should try to go to bed each night at the same time and attempt to get up at the same hour in the morning. This may be hard, but it is a first and the most important step to creating good sleeping habits.

There are also a couple of things you can do in order to improve your sleep hygiene, like to avoid using electronic devices at least two hours before bedtime, refuse to consummate alcohol or drinks based on caffeine in the afternoon, or to limit daytime naps to half an hour tops. Creating a pleasant sleeping environment and practicing yoga, for example, can be extremely helpful as well.

If we don’t have good sleep hygiene, our body will tell us that. Daytime sleepiness and frequent sleep disturbances are the first signs that we need to think about establish some changes in our lives. They don’t have to be groundbreaking, but they do need to lead to peaceful and undisturbed nights.
